One of the accused in the murder of former Minister of Agriculture, Satyadeow Sawh and his siblings, David Leander, called Biscuit' succumbed in the Male Medical Ward at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) yesterday morning.

He had been in a coma for a few days before his death.

He was quietly wheeled away to the institution's mortuary even before his relatives arrived.

The police were out in their numbers as news of the Leander's demise spread.

And the Prison Administration yesterday confirmed his death, saying he was pronounced dead at the Georgetown Public Hospital yesterday morning at about 09:30h.

The Prison Administration also expressed its concerns about the comments being circulated in the media that Leander was poisoned by the authority.

The Administration said it is important to note that the prisoner, when on admission, requested to receive meals from his relatives. This was approved, and up until the time of his demise, he received his meals from the persons he authorised to bring same for him.

Two weeks prior to his hospitalisation, the prisoner complained of feeling unwell and was referred to GPH on Thursday, July 9, where he was treated and returned to the Georgetown Prison, the Prison Administration said.

However, one week after, on Thursday, July 16, Leander was again referred to the Public Hospital where he was admitted, and fell into a coma and subsequently succumbed.

Leander was admitted last Thursday at the GPH where he was being treated for vomiting.

He was unresponsive and was expected to appear at the Sparendaam Magistrate's Court last Friday for the Preliminary Inquiry (PI).

Reports from the Prison said that Leander had been unwell for some time now and this was his second admission at GPH.

The prisoner, along with the now dead Jermaine "Skinny" Charles, had been charged with the murder of Sawh, his brother Rajpat, his sister, Pulmattie Persaud, and security guard Curtis Robertson on April 22, 2006 at the Minister's La Bonne Intention, East Coast Demerara home.
